If you live in Alabama and like to hike, you may be interested in the proposed plans for an extensive hiking trail system in the state. The Alabama Hiking Trail Society is actively working to bring the plans to fruition and needs volunteers to help build and repair the trails. You can contact the AHTS office at (334) 244-1579 or by email at ahts@hikealabama.org. Or you can write them at Alabama Hiking Trail Society, PO Box 231164, Montgomery, AL 36123.

A map of the trail system is below. The Pinhoti Trail will actually become part of the new International Appalachian Trail once it is connected to the Conecuh/Sunshine/Florida Trail system. The section of trail in Alabama running south from the Pinhoti to the Florida state line is the last and largest uncompleted section of the future IAT. Once the Alabama section is completed, the IAT will run continuously from southern Florida to Belle Isle, Newfoundland. Let’s get Alabama on the map!
